Word to the wise, if it hurts for more than a few days, go see a doctor.
On one hand running is a hobby, a fun activity. A doctor is for sick people, right? Not for people who have aches and pains from running. I mean, why see a doctor when some rest and at-home physical therapy will do the trick? Maybe.
Maybe we know what we have and can recover on our own. Or maybe we have a more serious issue. Or something that is actually different than what you research has shown. Several reasons.
Runners love to run. We don’t feel right not running. A day not running is a day during which we don’t “feel whole”. Although not life-threatening, an injury that isn’t addressed may lead to more damage down the road. As well as the whole not-being-able-to-run-in-the-first-place thing. Kind of a big deal.
The crazy thing is running usually causes our injuries. Yes, we’re rushing back to do what got us hurt in the first place! Crazy thing it does to us. Can’t live with it, and can’t live without it.
So, don’t be like me and let something go for (well) over a month! Instead of trying to obtain diagnoses from people online or our own independent research, see someone in person who can tell you how to treat your injury. Ugh. I’ll lose over two months, but if this makes me a better runner, so be it!
We live and we learn. It’s better to learn from someone else’s mistakes. Or sometimes we have to learn the hard way and hope we don’t do it again.
